Our Stained Glass windows were first conceptualized in 1941, 11 years after this sanctuary was built and came into realization and installed in April 1965 right after a severe hail storm broke most of the west side windows. Plexiglass was later installed on the outside of the windows to guard against future incidents. They were designed by Orco,Inc of San Antonio, Texas.

50 years later.
In 2015, it was noticed that our stained glass windows were falling apart. The Board of Trustees, chaired by Andy Lewis, searched for someone who specialized in stained glass to repair them. One company that was contacted was Scottish Stained Glass of Colorado. Finance committee chairman Mack Pusley contacted this company. Shannon Brown went to see a church in New Braunfels whose windows have been repaired by Scottish Stained Glass. In July, the owner of Scottish Stained Glass, Martin Faith, came to Del Rio to see the windows and met with Andy Lewis, Mack Pusley, Pastor John Fluth and church members Bill and Kay Cauthorn. Mr. Faith explained that the windows would be removed and taken to his studio in Colorado to be dismantled, cleaned, repaired, and put back together with new lead; and a clear tempered glass covering would be put on the outside. In August, 2015 the trustees accepted the bid from Scottish Stained Glass. The project was finished in March 2017. Through the generosity of members of our church, this project has been paid for. |
Our Stained glass windows were rededicated on August 19, 2017. Bishop Robert Schnase of the Rio Texas Conference UMC presided. Below is the The Consecration Litany that was said by the bishop and by all who attended.
The Consecration Litany Bishop Schnase: Dear friends, we rejoice that God has so moved within the hearts of his people that these stained glass windows have been refurbished. Let us now consecrate these windows for service and celebrate their holy use. All: Oh eternal God, mighty in power and in comprehensible majesty, whom the heavens cannot contain, much less the structure made with hands, you have promised your special presence whenever two or three are assembled in your name to offer praise and prayer. By the power of your Holy Spirit consecrate these stained glass windows, our buildings and our church family. Bless us and sanctify us what we do here, that this place might be set apart for your work in this community. May it be a safe place within these walls where the burdened find support and comfort, where the lonely will be included and where of those seeking God will discover His love and unfailing grace. We ask that the sounds of laughter from children of all ages will be heard within these walls. May we take time to delight in the rare gifts of life, friendships and the joys of living within this great community. May children be taught and nurtured, may marriages become strengthened, may opportunities for service be wide- spread and fruitful, may hospitality in bountiful meals unite families and deepen in fellowship. Guide and empower in this place by the same Spirit that the proclamation of your Word in the celebration of your Sacraments, the pouring out of prayer and the singing of your praise, and the professions of faith and testimony to your grace. Save us from that failure of vision which would confine our worship within these walls, but send us out from here to be your servants in the world, sharing the blessings of Christ with the world he came to redeem. May our lives be a radiant prism of God's light shining through us to all within our community. Now, O God, sanctify this place, for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the dominion, and you are exalted as head above all. Let the name of the Lord be praised both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. Amen. |
